Black Friday Wrap-Up
By admin | November 26, 2007
It is over. Black Friday has come and gone and all that is left is the scoreboard. It has actually been funny that a fair amount of people have asked me how I did (did I execute my strategy successfully?).
I have awaited to reveal the results online and I am going to be honest. The quote that comes to my head when thinking of this year’s performance is:
“If it were easy it wouldn’t be worth doing.”
My brother and I made a couple mistakes that ended up costing us early on. The store that was my “money” store was Staples. I HAD to hit that store early to maximize my success. However, it did not open ’til 6 and other stores opened at 5. So I got greedy and said for us to hit Circuit City first at 5 and be out of there by 6 to get to Staples. That is when my plans went awry.
We ended up getting stuck at Circuit City too long and by the time we got to staples 100% of my “money” items were gone. Needless to say it was a tough blow and we could either throw in the towel or try to persevere through the trials and onward to victory.
We then went to Best Buy with a limited amount of luck. That was until we found out that there was a “voucher” fiasco that we could play to our advantage. Apparently, in the long line Friday morning there were kids taking vouchers and selling them to the people in the back of the line for $50. These vouchers meant you could redeem a particular door-buster item. But through some mis-haps all the vouchers were not distributed correctly.
We found this out and also found out that at 9 a.m. if all vouchers were not redeemed they would start passing out the doorbuster items to be sold. So at around 7 a.m. my brother was like 10th in line to redeem the doorbuster items. Our strategy was for him to stand in line til 9 a.m. and I went to hit a couple other stores.
At 9 a.m. I showed back up to Best Buy to find hundreds of people behind him in line. 9 o’clock hit and he went to town on the doorbuster items. Every deal you wanted was at his fingertips and we went all out because we figured we knew people who would want some of the items even if we didn’t.
Needless to say it was a come from behind victory on Friday and of course we went to chick-fil-a to celebrate.
Some notables of what I got was a GPS system in my car for $99, wireless keyboard and mouse combo for $25, and several DVD tv-series box sets for around $15.
My mind is already planning for next year and with that I have some exciting news. We have a new strategy in the works, but it requires a 3rd person. That’s right, that new position could be yours. If you want to apply for this there will be an application process so be on the lookout for it.
