Giving is the Smartest Thing Ever

    By admin | October 15, 2007

The Giving TreeGiving Time and Money are Both Important. Recently someone BLEW ME AWAY with how generous they were and helped me in an AMAZING way! When someone is generous to me I am usually so blown away that I am willing to give just about anything to them because I am so grateful. This is the way humans work. Now, I am not proposing a selfish mindset while giving. I am merely stating a fact, a law of the universe that God in his infinite wisdom created was that generosity produces more good.

In fact as a Christ follower you are called to give and give generously and cheerfully. Is it because God is big chief no fun and wants you to have less? I don’t think so. I honestly think that God knows how people work and that when you give it unlocks many things. When you give you feel something in there and it is a good thing (as if you were created to be generous), and then when you receive you are grateful and in turn want to give back more which as I just said makes you feel good.

I strongly encourage you to give. If you are not a Christ Follower I still urge you to make giving a core principle in your life. This is not a money-back guarantee but this is a prophetic statement that it WILL be worth it. It sounds weird trying to convince people to give because they will get in return and I do not want to camp there because you are missing the point if that is your heart in it. But in Malachi 3:10 God actually says to test him in this and see if he will not pour blessings on you.

Please do not take this passage and run off with it. This does not mean that you will win the lottery. But it does say blessings.

As we continue to push for wisdom of handling our money (which is extremely biblical) we need to be on guard to not cross over into hoarding. There is a definite line between saving and hoarding. Saving is wise and biblical, hoarding causes animosity and greed.

As a child I used to watch the Simpsons. My least favorite character was always Mr. Burns and he was also the most miserable, yet he had the most money in Springfield. Remember that you can gain all the riches in the world but if you cross over to this state of greed it brings misery.

I honestly believe that by placing generosity as a core principle in your financial life it will keep you from falling into a trap and ending up living life as it was not intended.
