Hard Work is Good for You
By admin | July 28, 2008
I am currently in a little hiatus from working out. I need to work out; I just haven’t been. I got a little wii fit to track progress and thinking that would jump-start my workout binge. However, it really has not. I like keeping progress of my weight but it has not caused me to start the trek.
Now, I am thinking I need a new pair of running shoes that are designed for my body type to help me start running. But I think we all know that you cannot throw money or things at a problem and it be fixed.
In our finances, the same is true. When we take a break for a month…two months…three months…we find ourselves “out of shape” financially. In order to get back in, buying a new computer program to track our finances is not what gets us back on track, seeing a financial counselor is not what gets us back on track, and pretending like the problem isn’t there definitely is not what gets us back on track.
You want to know what does get us on track in both circumstances (working out & in our finances)?
Emotion. Emotion is the secret key to unlock your ability to get in shape. You will not get in shape financially when you get a raise, you won’t get in shape when your tax refund comes back. You will get in shape when it becomes very VERY important to you.
Let me show you what I am talking about.
What if I told you today that I just heard on the news that there was this disease going around infecting people that had a high percentage of body fat. And for the sake of the story let’s say here is the scary part…you are above that limit and you have 12 months to either get to that level of body fat or you’ll be gone.
How many of us would be working out every day to get to that level. How many of us would be eating right in an effort to save our lives.
On some level for most of us that struck a little emotional chord where we start thinking this is important. We’re thinking I’m gonna run everyday, I’m gonna get a trainer, I’m gonna eat right, I’m gonna exercise, because this is serious…this matters.
Well my point is this IS serous, and this DOES matter. Getting in financial shape is too important. Continuing to allow ourselves to be confused and frustrated with our money does not have to be the reality.
As soon as we realize it is important to get in shape (financially and physically) that is when we will do it.
