    Insatiable Desires

    By admin | August 26, 2008

Insatiable - in·sa·tia·ble - adj. Impossible to satiate or satisfy

These are desires that are impossible to satisfy. I am the poster child for insatiable desires. I always want the next thing. I am always looking to the next step. I was lying in bed and wondering if I will always be this way or if one day I can turn this feature of my brain off.

It doesn’t matter what it is; I just got NCAA Football 2009…well guess who already wants 2010. It can be technology, career path, relationships, hobbies, money, whatever it may be; many times we get stuck on the next step. The problem lies when we then get to the next step we are already desiring the step after that one…it is insatiable.

I have seen the effects of this in many cases in the arena of money. Most people just want “more” money. If they could just get “some more,” things would be alright. Then when it is obtained, the desire of “more” money is still there. “More” in this regards is un-definable. No matter how much you get you still want more.

Chris, how do I deal with that if it is in me?

Glad you asked, unfortunately I do not have the answer. I have some thoughts but I am not arrogant enough to give you the secret formula.

    Be Content

What does this look like? Looks different for different people.
What is the first step to this? It is a different step for everyone.

I love giving people steps, in this circumstance I am unable to. The only thing that I do know is that we should strive to be content no matter what our circumstances are.

Hebrews 13:5 “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have.”

This is so brilliant. Think about how different life would be if we were content every step of the way rather than constantly be looking eagerly to what is next.

It is almost as if life was designed to be lived this way.
