It’s a Special Day Today
By admin | August 28, 2008
Most of you know why today is such a great day. It is a day that brings a new phase each year. Today marks the beginning of the end of hot weather (unless you are in Columbia, SC and you have 3 more months of summer). Today causes an extra skip in every guy’s (and some girls) step. Today marks the beginning of how I will spend my weekends for the next 3-4 months.
Thats right…today is FOOTBALL SEASON.
USC Gamecocks host NC State Wolfpack on ESPN tonight. Yes, you can soak that in.
College Football is a great product. I think I know why America has embraced it so dearly; more than baseball, basketball, hockey, and especially soccer. I love all sports but to be honest with you, College Football (or arguably football in general) peaks my interest more than other sports.
Here is the reason. It fits.
It fits our lives, our wiring, and our schedules. We as a society are busy people. We just are. Working jobs all day that eek past 5:30 or 6 some days. We have evening activities and spouses. Then if you have kids, forget about it. We do not have the option to follow basketball, baseball, & hockey games every other week night.
I honestly believe this is the reason why there are so many people (at least in the circle of people I interact people) that do not care about other sports but care deeply about football.
It fits us.
College football is one big day a week on a Saturday, when this is usually our least busiest day. It comes and goes quickly. It is exciting during that time and is easy to build anticipation leading up to it.
What does this have to do with money? You should know better than to ask that question at this point. This has EVERYTHING to do with finances.
I am learning that in order to win with money you have to consistently manage and give attention to your personal finances. I’m talking about a few minutes every couple days (consistently). Track your expenses, know how much you have left in the categories that you budgeted (Food Monthly Budget - $150 ; I have spent $30 already; Therefore, I have $120 more). Thats it.
However, in order to pay attention to our money, it has to fit. Each person is different…finding a system, a time, a way, a mindset to handle your money is so important. And here is the funny thing single people. Once you get it and it is rolling smoothly and you get married. You have to re-do everything.
You start back from ground zero…you find a new system, a new consistent time and way, and a new mindset to handle this stuff.
Making it fit you is so important. College football did it and it has exploded to arguably the #1 sport in America. Using the same concept with your money is vital. Figure out a way to make it fit you.
Just wanted to tell everyone to have a Happy Football Day! Go Tigers
