    So, A-Rod Did Steroids

    By admin | February 10, 2009

As many know, I am a sports enthusiast.  And of all the sports that I love, major league baseball is at the top of that list.  I just love it.

It is beatiful weather right now in Columbia and days like today make me gitty because this type of weather signifies spring training is near.

When spring training starts I then think of March trips to Florida (and watching the Phillies).  Then I think of summer days where I can take off work and check out a day game in Atlanta.  Then I think of friends I go with.  And the thoughts go on and on.

Yes, I love this time of year.  However, I am now scared with this A-Rod/Steroids stuff coming out (this time of year).  Why am I scared?  No, it is not because I feel he has tarnished the game by him cheating.  What he did (and what many many others did) is not excusable…but dwelling on it is not the solution.

I may be alone in these thoughts, but I no longer want to find out who did what.  I really don’t.  What I want is a 100% rate of success of no steroids being in the game going forward.  And I also want our federal government to not care so much and waste this amount of time and money pursuing steroid allegations (but thats a side point).

So why am I scared?  That with this coming out, this time of year, for the next month all we are going to hear is about A-rod and the steroid era again.  I saw the A-rod interview last night, then again later that night, then again this morning and I thought to myself…this is only the beginning.

In my opinion what A-rod did in 2001-2003 was bad, but it didn’t tarnish the game to me.  The media coverage and constant dwelling of what happened in the past is what I believe to be destroying major league baseball.  This is why I am scared.

What does this have to do with our financial life?  Past Mistakes.  I meet with people all the time who cannot get over their past mistakes.

In a 30 minute conversation they will go back to one moment in history two or three times in that same conversation.  I hear, “if only I didn’t loan my brother that money”  “if only I waited before I got that car”  “if only I started investing earlier.”

This translates exactly to the situation in baseball.  Sure, we can agree that WE ALL have made financial mistakes (and I mean that…WE ALL have).  However, that moment doesn’t define or tarnish your financial history.  The innability to move past it is what does.

Those are just my thoughts on life and baseball…
