Taking Shortcuts
By admin | December 20, 2007
So the other day at my house we decided to do a little re-arranging. Next to my desk is this huge copier machine that has been nicknamed R2D2. We thought it would be a good idea to move it to another room and out of our way.
In order to roll it into another room it had to roll over a power strip that was powering my desktop computer (which contained several un-saved semi important files). Rather than taking the time and saving each individual one and powering down my computer, I decided that it would be a great idea to roll the copier with enough momentum and clear the wires it had to run over.
We gave it a shot and needless to say it did not yield great results. It pulled my computer over which came un-plugged and my prized Dwight Shrute bobblehead (that my awesome sister gave me for my birthday) was a casualty in the meantime.
The copier ended up in the other room but not without me paying the price for taking a shortcut. Sure, I did get my computer to recover the files thanks to Microsoft Office; and Dustin is supergluing Dwights legs back together. But if I would have just taken the time to do things right the first time rather than taking shortcuts things would be better off.
This kind of stuff sounds familiar when it comes to life and money. Too many of us out there get ourselves in sticky situations when we should have just been patient and done things the right way.
Let’s say we want a big-screen TV. We finance it and end up paying 50% more on the TV by the end of it rather than just delaying pleasure and saving up for it.
Or how about shortcuts with cars. Getting a car loan is a way of life (rather than getting a beater for a little bit and saving up for a new one to pay cash with). Take a look at this post how to NEVER have a car payment again by just making a decision to not take shortcuts and finance or lease EVERY car you ever had.
The track record in America is not looking good considering Bankrupties and Foreclosures set new records each year. Trust me, shortcuts are not worth it…
Look what happens when I make a shortcut. Dwight legs get cut off and my computer kicks the bucket
