    We Need to Talk…(part 1 of 2)

    By admin | June 2, 2008

It is a well known fact that if someone ever says “we need to talk” what that means is “I am about to drop a bomb of information on you.” For instance, if a girlfriend or boyfriend says, “we need to talk” this translates “I am about to break up with you.” Fun conversations don’t start with, “we need to talk.” As a matter of fact, that usually leads to a tough conversation.

Well, I am about to have a transition that will explain the nature of the rest of this post.

We need to talk…about you and your money.

I want to ask the tough questions. Topics that will make you think through things that most Americans aren’t doing. By the way money should be the easiest thing we deal with in life (not the hardest). It is a number coming in, and then YOU CHOOSE the number going out. Simple addition and subtraction and you are in complete control.

Anyway, I want to ask you two questions:

1.) Am I wondering where my money went? (Have you ever asked yourself, ‘Where did my money go?’)

2.) Am I telling it where to go?

I think we all know the correct answers to these questions but I ask you to really evaluate how things are going.

Let me show you the my simple formula to easing the pressure in the arena of your finances. Spend Less Thank You Make.

This seems so simple yet it is brilliant, as long as you spend less than you make you will be in good shape financially.

The best way to stay on top of managing your money is to do a written MONTHLY budget. Every dollar you bring in has a name to it. You are controlling it rather than it controlling you. If you get 2 paychecks during a month, spend it all before you even get them. Always spend basic needs first (food, housing, clothing, & transportation).

    Why these 4 first?

Food - I want to make sure you have something to eat before anything else

Housing - I want to make sure you have a place to sleep before anything else

Clothing - I want to make sure you don’t have to go to work/school/church in the birthday suit (this is not the designer jean category)

Transportation - I want to make sure you can get to work.

Find out tomorrow what to plan for next after you take care of these 4 things every month.
